The Humane Society of Henderson recently made several leadership changes, including the hiring of a new executive director and the appointment of a new president of the board of directors.

Christa Bennett, the new president of the board, was voted in on March 10, she said. She said the organization’s goal is to move forward, adding that the humane society deals with capacity issues, which is common to shelters all over the U.S.

The board currently consists of seven members. Bennett said the humane society is looking for more community members to join.

Bennett said the organization plans to hold one community event and one adoption event each month and one fundraising event each quarter.

Additionally, she said a new annual fundraising event will be held this year. A masquerade ball, it’s called a “A Night to Rescue” and will be Sept. 13 at The Elm. Bennett said people or organizations wishing to assist can contact her at cbennett@hshcky.org.

The humane society’s new executive director is Gina Miller, who had been working as an animal control officer. She replaces Melinda Whitlock, who left in January, Bennett said.

The humane society and animal control work side-by-side, and according to a release from the humane society, Miller is committed to develop a unified team across both entities.

Miller has been on the job for a bit more than a month and is working on creating more welcoming environment for visitors and staff at the office and take on capacity challenges, said the release.

Bennett replaces Stacy McCord-Crooks. Miller replaces Melinda Whitlock.
