Henderson Mayor Brad Staton has been elected to serve on the Kentucky League of Cities’ Executive Board.
Staton began serving on the KLC’s board of directors after he became mayor in 2023, he said. A recent vote by KLC moves Staton to the executive board, which he said is more intimately involved in shaping the organization and its positions before things are introduced to the general board of directors for discussion and votes.
Staton said KLC does many things for Kentucky cities “from providing investment opportunities to municipalities to being a property and casualty insurance provider to municipalities.”
He said the city of Henderson switched its property and casualty insurance to KLC a few years ago, which has saved the city nearly $500,000 annually.
Staton said KLC gathers ideas from cities for state-level legislation and develops policy positions for state-proposed legislation that will impact cities across Kentucky. KLC also advocates at the state level for cities based on feedback from participating cities.
Staton said the move to the executive board will also help Henderson.
“I’ve always felt like I have quite a bit of input on behalf of our city just by being on the board of directors,” Staton said. “The main benefit I see for making the move up to the executive board is that it will allow me more input on the organization’s controlling decisions and direction and will give us in Henderson an even bigger microphone within the organization to make sure our voices are heard and communicated effectively to our folks in state government.”
