Bend Gate beat Spottsville in tug of war at Rotary Field Day in Henderson on Thursday, Sept. 24. Spottsville has a long history in the event: According to Rotary officials, the late Ray Lacer coached its team for 51 years and won 50 times. Bend Gate’s team set a goal to win this year and came away with the title.
“We are really proud of our tug of war team and our rotary field participants as a whole,” Bend Gate principal Katie Kirkwood said. “Those students take great pride in Bend Gate and set a goal to win tug of war. They showed up and gave their best effort to come home with the win!”
Bend Gate’s tug of war team included Bentley Billings, Eric Valdez, I’Yana Orr, Kendrick Carter, Journee Locher, Da’Mayah Madole, Kaylenn Wright, and Avery Breeding. Bend Gate finished fifth in the overall Field Day standings, while Spottsville took second and Holy Name School won the overall title.
