Henderson man gets 10 years for street racing that led to death of a woman
A Henderson man was sentenced to 10 years for his role in a Green Street street racing crash that resulted in a death in May 2024.
Korbin Candler pleaded guilty to five counts of wanton endangerment—one count each for the four people who were injured and the person who died, Kelly Green, 46.
McKee said the final charges were amended from a previous charge of four counts of wanton endangerment and one count of wanton murder.
Candler’s plea came on Dec. 22, after all sides in the case met with retired Daviess County Circuit Judge Tom Castlen for a mediation. McKee said at that time all involved came to an agreement in the sentence.
He said all partied agreed there was substantial evidence to prove that Candler initiated the street race that exceeded 100 miles per hour. McKee also said that Candler’s actions put Green, her passenger and three passengers in a vehicle that Candler’s collided with in danger of serious injury or death.
McKee also said, though, that Green had a blood alcohol level of .05, which is below the .08 limit, and that coupled with her “willingly engaging in the high speed street race were factors taken into consideration of whether he was the cause of her death.”
McKee said both Candler and Green took off on Green Street, and Candler swerved into the lane of Green to avoid a car in front of him and then slowed down which caused Green to swerve into oncoming traffic and the crash with a third vehicle.
The race started at the stoplight at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Green Street and the crash between Green’s vehicle and a Chrysler Sebring occurred in the Taco Bell/McDonald’s area of Green Street, according to a past Hendersonian article.
After the crash, Candler, in his Mustang, continued driving, McKee said.
Candler, 21, is eligible for parole after 20% of the sentence is served. McKee said the parties at the mediation agree on the sentence based on Candler’s age, maturity and lack of criminal history
Henderson man sentenced to 15 years on sexual abuse of a minor charges
A Henderson man was sentenced to 15 years on sexual abuse of a minor charges on Monday, Jan. 12, said Henderson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Herb McKee, Jr.
Zachary Breedlove, 43, was sentenced on first-degree sexual abuse of a person under 12 years old and first-degree sexual abuse—person in position of authority.
Breedlove was indicted on the charges in June 2025 by a Henderson Grand Jury, said McKee.
McKee said the victim was a person in Breedlove’s home, and the child is now at Henderson County High School.
The victim reported the abuse to an HCHS school counselor, who then notified authorities, McKee said. Henderson Police Department investigated the case, he said.
McKee said the 15-year sentence came after discussions with the victim’s family. They came to the agreement that this was the best resolution, he said.
Breedlove will be eligible for parole after having served 85% of his sentence, McKee said. But McKee said he believes parole is not appropriate in this case and will forward victim impact statements to the parole board.
