The chairman of the board of directors for Moose International paid a visit to Henderson Thursday and gained an honorary citizenship along the way.

John Sipes received an honorary citizen certificate and a key to the city from Mayor Brad Staton. After, he told those gathered at the local Moose Lodge 732 that he’s been traveling the country since July. In that time, he’s visited 30 Moose state associations and 164 lodges, he said.

The Moose has had an increase nationally in membership the past three years, Sipes said, adding the total number now stands at 905,614.

There are 354 members at the local lodge, which was established in 1913. Sipes said that the local lodge can receive $38 per each new member the lodge signs up above its current level.

Additionally, the local lodge presented a $500 check to the Ohio valley Art League and a $500 check to the local court appointed special advocate team. CASA was also given a box of Tommy Moose dolls to give to the children that the advocates help.
