The Henderson County Sheriff’s deputy who was recently arrested on domestic violence charges has resigned.

According to a Henderson County Sheriff’s Office release, Gary Jones resigned on Thursday, four days after he had been arrested for an early Sunday morning incident that occurred at his home.

Jones, 40, was charged with fourth-degree domestic violence with a minor injury, second-degree unlawful imprisonment and harassment with physical contact and no injury.

The release said that Jones was placed on administrative leave without pay on Monday as a result of his arrest by the Henderson Police Department.

Jones is scheduled to be in court at 9 a.m. Aug. 11 in Henderson District Court.

Jones is currently involved in a federal lawsuit in which it is alleged he shot at a car and injured a passenger after a July 2025 car chase. An internal investigation by the sheriff’s office concluded that Jones shot at a vehicle that was trying to run him over, court documents say.
