Police say a person shot a hole in the back of a car traveling on Alves Street early Wednesday afternoon and the bullet grazed the arm of a teenager traveling in the car.
Henderson Police Department Det. John Nevels said the shot came from a car traveling on Alves between Clay and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Because one of the teenagers in the car is an employee of McDonald’s, the driver continued on to the Washington Street restaurant, where a 911 call was placed and where HPD officers responded, Nevels said.
At the restaurant, the maroon Dodge Avenger sat in the parking lot with a bullet hole near the bottom of the rear window. Witnesses and those who were in the car answered questions from police. Nevels asked that this reporter not interview victims until he could speak to them at the police station.
The bullet grazed the arm of the juvenile, who did not need to seek treatment, Nevels said.
At the time of the interview, no one had been apprehended, Nevels said.
A witness said the incident occurred between 1:20-1:30 p.m.
A social media post from Henderson County Schools at about 1:30 p.m. said that Central Academy, South Middle School, and Jefferson and South Heights elementary schools were put on a modified lockdown.
A message from Holy Name School also said it was on a modified lockdown.
HPD put out a release a little after 2 p.m. said authorities didn’t believe there was any threat to the schools.
