Spring wildflowers will be in the spotlight this Saturday at the annual Wildflower Extravaganza hosted by John James Audubon State Park.
This free event was originally scheduled for April 5 but was postponed because of inclement weather.
Spring wildflowers of many types are present in the park’s forests and this event offers an opportunity to become familiar with them.
Here are some activities that will be offered:
- 10 a.m.: Early Spring Wildflowers of Audubon State Park. Audubon Museum. Approximately 45 minutes. This indoor photo presentation shows the typical flora found in Audubon State Park.
- 11 a.m.: Wildflower Walk. Meet on Audubon Museum front lawn. Approximately 45 minutes. During this 1/4 to 1/2-mile walk, the naturalist guide will point out wildflowers that are emerging. The walk will take place on an accessible trail and is suitable for all ages.
- 1 p.m.: Wildflower Walk & Scavenger Hunt. Meet on Audubon Museum front lawn. Approximately 1-1 1/2 hours. This is a naturalist-led moderately challenging walk on hilly terrain. Participants will learn (and search) for wildflowers and hear some plant folklore.
