Tuesday bridge inspection will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

This photo taken from the Henderson County Office of Emergency Management Facebook page shows traffic backed up to the Ky. 2084 exit on U.S. 41 Monday afternoon. The traffic is a result of inspections occurring on the northbound lanes of the Twin Bridges. Henderson OEM used its drone to take the photo.

Due to traffic backups that stretched beyond the Ky. 2084 exit on U.S. 41, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will shift its work time Tuesday for the inspections being done on the northbound lanes of the Twin Bridges.

Matt Hughes, the District 2 spokesperson for the cabinet, said work will begin 8 a.m. and will end at 2 p.m. On Monday, the work was scheduled for a 9 a.m. start and ended at 3 p.m.

“In response to the northbound delays in Henderson on U.S. 41 today, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will adjust lane restrictions to 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow,” Hughes said in an email to the Hendersonian. “KYTC will continue to monitor traffic impacts throughout the week.”

Hughes said the federal government requires bridge inspections every two years and the last inspection of the Twin Bridges was in 2022.

There was, however, inspections of the southbound bridge in fall of 2023, but that Federal Highway Administration-required steel T1 steel inspection was unrelated to the current inspection.

“Due to scheduling and the nature of the work, the two inspections could not be conducted simultaneously,” Hughes said.

Henderson County Office of Emergency management Director Kenny Garrett said he got drone footage of the traffic at about 4:15 p.m. that was backed up south of the Ky. 2084 exit.
