Officials with the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project will hold a public meeting on Monday so that resident can become more educated about the roundabouts that are scheduled to open to traffic before the start of school in August.
The meeting will be 5:30-7 p.m. at Henderson County High School.
According to a release from I-69 Ohio River Crossing, the meeting will include a virtual reality station to “drive” through the new roundabouts at the Ky. 351/Second Street interchange, video simulations, maps and more information.
Officials will also speak about the progress that has been made and what can be expected till the end of the year, said the release.
Currently, 60% of the work of Section 1 is complete, and 75% will be finished by the end of the year. Section 1 is expected to be complete by the end of 2025, said the release.
Section 1 includes the roadways, bridges and interchanges on the Kentucky side of the project.
The in-person meeting will be open house format with a project presentation planned in the school auditorium at 6:00 p.m. The virtual reality station will be open throughout the meeting.
Section 3 of the project—the Indiana side—is expected to begin soon, and officials for that piece will also be at the meeting to provide information, said the release.
I-69 ORX Section 2 is a bi-state project and includes the new I-69 bridge. Construction on the new four-lane river crossing is expected to begin in 2027 and be complete in 2031, said the release. Both states are looking for opportunities to accelerate the timeline.
