Davis named HCC Distinguished Alumni
Jim Davis, Independence Bank’s Henderson County President-Loan Officer, has been named the 2024 Henderson Community CollegeDistinguished Alumni recipient. The announcement was made during the college’s commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Preston Arts Center.
HCC said the Distinguished Alumni Award, established in 1980, is presented annually to recognize alumni who have made significant contributions to society. Recipients are honored for their professional achievements, civic engagement and the ways their careers have brought distinction to HCC.
According to HCC, Davis earned his associate degree from the community college before graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. Over the years, he has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the Henderson community, serving on numerous boards, including the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, Holy Name School, Green River Area Development District, College Foundation, Inc., and United Way.
He has also been instrumental in the construction of eight homes for Habitat for Humanity.
“Jim’s professional accomplishments, integrity, and dedication to the Henderson community are truly exceptional,” said Dorsey Ridley, chair of the HCC Board of Directors. “He exemplifies the solid foundation HCC provides to its students, empowering them to achieve success and make meaningful contributions to their communities.”
Pickleball club gives money to local organizations
The Henderson Ky. Pickleball Club recently donated money raised from the Baird Pickleball Tournament. The donations were $2,000 to Riverview School, $1,300 to the Henderson YMCA and $1,500 to the Henderson Ky. Pickleball Club.
Three juveniles face charges for stealing cars
Three juveniles are facing auto theft charges in connection with two stolen vehicles, according to the Henderson Police Department.
HPD officers were contacted about the stolen vehicles around 6 a.m. on December 18.
According to an HPD release, officers spotted one of the vehicles near St. Louis Cemetery. The occupants parked the vehicle and ran before officers were able to initiate a car stop, said the release.
Two of the occupants were found hiding in a shed in the 1400 block of South Green Street a short time later, and the third occupant was located at a relative’s house a few hours later, said the release.
One of the occupants was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation. While being escorted into the building, the suspect attempted to escape custody by running into the nearby neighborhood. He was caught after a short chase, said the release.
During the investigation, officers learned where the second stolen vehicle had been abandoned. Both vehicles were returned to their owners.
According to police, all three suspects were placed in a secure juvenile facility.
US 41 southbound traffic moving to new roadway and bridges: Drivers will now be in final configuration
Two new bridges and new roadway—the future southbound I-69—are open to traffic, which will be the final configuration for traffic that will be in place when the project is complete, said a release from I-69 Ohio River Crossing.
Crews have built new lanes of southbound US 41 just north of the KY 351/2nd Street exit, and they’ve completed work on new bridges at Van Wyk Road and Canoe Creek. The two lanes of southbound US 41 traffic were expected to shift on or after Friday. The move will have southbound US 41 traffic using the future I-69 and both new bridges, said the release.
Moving traffic to the future I-69 will eliminate the crossover that that’s been in place since this summer when southbound traffic was temporarily moved over to complete the additional road and bridge work, said the release.
Crews will continue to work on the new Kimsey Lane connection over to Van Wyk Road and complete the Merrill Trail Extension.
Additionally, the second lane of traffic on northbound US 41 over KY 351 is reopening to traffic, said the release. ORX officials said it’s been closed for work on the new US 41 bridges over KY 351/2nd Street. That work will continue into spring, but crews are able to reopen the additional lane.
