Amare Stewart | Basketball | Athlete of the Week for week ending Dec. 20
Henderson County guard Amare Stewart has been named Athlete of the Week following an exceptional week of basketball that saw the Colonels post a 4-1 record and win the Generals Christmas Classic in Bardstown. Following the championship game, Stewart was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
The 6’4 junior was the team’s leading scorer in four of the five games, playing a pivotal role in Henderson County’s success. Stewart scored 15 points against University Heights, followed by another 15 points (including three three-pointers) versus Daviess County. He paced the Colonels with 22 points against Louisville Western, added 17 points in a victory over Marion County and contributed 13 points in the championship game against Thomas Nelson.
After leading Henderson County to a 3-0 record in the Generals Christmas Classic, Stewart was named the tournament’s MVP for his consistent scoring, three-point shooting, and rebounding.
Stewart on his performances: “I’m grateful for everyone who voted me for athlete of the week. It means a lot to have your support. I was happy to help get us rolling this week and during our weekend tournament. It was great for us to leave Bardstown 3-0 and a much better and closer team. Thank you to my teammates and coaches for helping us get off to a great start to the season so far.”
