Henderson County senior A’Tylia Green has added another honor to an already impressive basketball résumé.
Green was selected to the Kentucky All-Star Team, becoming just the sixth Lady Colonel to earn the distinction. The selection adds to a list of accomplishments that includes 2nd Region Player of the Year, Kentucky Junior All-Star, McDonald’s All-American nominee, membership in the 1,000-point club and the Henderson County steals record.
“Being one of the few Henderson County girls to be picked to be placed on this team is a joy I couldn’t express,” Green said. “I think it’s a great opportunity to show that the county players can play with the city players too.”
The honor comes following a standout senior season in which Green averaged 16.5 points per game and scored 545 total points while also leading the Lady Colonels with 4.3 rebounds per contest.
Green said making the team was something she had set her sights on well before the season began.
“This was definitely something I had my eye on, considering the region player of the year and my selection last year,” Green said. “I’m very excited for the opportunity.”
The all-star selection is another milestone for a player who became one of the faces of Henderson County’s program during her five-year career.
Green helped the Lady Colonels continue their run as one of the region’s premier programs, reaching the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 in each of her three seasons as a starter. Along the way, she established herself as one of the top players in the 2nd Region, known for her ability to impact games on both ends of the floor.
Her senior season was perhaps her best. In addition to leading Henderson County in scoring and rebounding, Green earned Second Region Player of the Year honors and capped her career as one of the most decorated players in recent program history.
Head coach Stephen Haile said Green’s all-star selection is a testament to the work she has put in throughout her career.
“As the sixth Lady Colonel to ever play in the All-Star Game, it’s a huge honor for A’Tylia and our program to have her participating,” Haile said. “Her hard work and dedication to her craft has helped her pave her way to play collegiately and get a spot to play in this game. We are extremely proud of her and our program.”
The Kentucky All-Star Team features many of the top senior players from across the Commonwealth, placing Green among an elite group as she prepares for the next chapter of her career.
She is to be a part of two games and practices set for May 30 and May 31. The Kentucky Senior all-star girls was scheduled to take on the Kentucky Junior all-star girls at Louisville Eastern High School on Saturday and at Charlestown (Ind.) High School on Sunday.
Green will continue her basketball career at Kentucky State this fall.
