Barr visited Thursday

U.S. Rep. Andy Barr was in Henderson for a campaign stop last week to speak to a group of local Republicans.

Barr is seeking the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat that retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell currently holds.

According to a release from his campaign, Barr was in town to lay out his vision for the Senate and how he can represent Henderson.

“I’m running to be Kentucky’s champion: to strengthen our economy by cutting taxes for hard working Kentuckians, supporting our farmers, standing with our law enforcement and delivering real results for our communities,” Barr said in the release. “I’m the only candidate in this race currently fighting alongside Trump to get this America First agenda passed and I’ll be his strongest advocate in the Senate.”

According to the release, Barr has worked with President Donald Trump on the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”  The release said that Barr is also a leader on national security on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“I want to thank Congressman Barr for coming to Henderson and sharing his plan for how he can represent us in the U.S. Senate,”said state Rep. J.T. Payne, who welcomed Barr at the event.

92-year-old Park’s 10th play will be Aug. 23-24 at PAC

A new play by retired educator and local storyteller/playwright Bob Park will be performed on Aug. 23-24 at Preston Arts Center.

The play, Park’s 10th, is the latest story about the folks of Taffy, Kentucky, who are drawn from the playwright’s memories of growing up in the Ohio County community.

In this installment, a new medium has come to Taffy in the form of their first radio station, and the citizens are dealing with all its challenges, notably change.

“Taffy Shenanigans: On The Air” will be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, in McCormick Hall. Ticket sales from the shows will benefit Henderson Area Arts Alliance.

The show features many characters that audiences have come to know and love, including Uncle Walton, Bum and Mabledean, Marshal Marshall and Ruby Mae, Preacher Newton, Myrtie and Gertie and others.

General admission tickets, $20, will go on sale in July and will be available at Abba’s Music (119 N. Main St.), Henderson Tourist Commission (101 N. Water St.) and Olive Leaf (136 N. Main St.) and at Preston Arts Center box office on the day of the performances.

The 92-year-old Park will also do a book signing after each show with a limited number of copies of his latest published work, “The Fat Lady Has Sung,” which provides “the rest of the story” about his Taffy characters. Donations for the booklet will benefit St. Anthony’s Hospice.

Daniel Pitino Shelter hosts fundraiser ‘Dinks and Drinks’

During the Ladies Night Out-Dinks and Drinks, female members of the Henderson Pickleball Club will offer tips about the sport. No experience is needed.
