Electric rates will be increasing for customers of Kentucky Utilities Co., including its approximately 2,815 customers in portions of Henderson and Henderson County, according to a press release from the Kentucky Public Service Commission.
The PSC on Feb. 16 announced it had approved an increase for an average residential customer using 1,085 kWh of $8.73 per month, or 6.54 percent. That would increase an average monthly electric bill from $133.57 to $142.30.
This will be KU’s first rate increase since 2020.
KU originally sought an increase of 11.5%. Last October it negotiated a settlement for a lower rate increase with most of the organizations that formally intervened in the case, including the Kentucky Attorney General Office of Rate Intervention. The PSC said it made some modifications to that settlement.
The PSC said the rate increase was proposed to fund infrastructure upgrades and address rising costs, including those associated with severe weather events.
KU serves some areas along Zion Road from Highland Acres to Zion, portions of the Corydon-Smith Mills area and some areas around Cairo, Poole and Robards.
