Amare Stewart | Basketball | Athlete of the Month for February

(This piece first appeared in the March print edition of the Hendersonian.)

Henderson County junior Amare Stewart has been named Athlete of the Month for February after turning in a series of standout performances that fueled an undefeated month for the Colonels. Stewart recorded several strong scoring outings in February, including performances of 25, 24, and two 20-point games, averaging 17.3 points per game across nine contests. Beyond the scoring totals, his efficiency stood out, as Stewart shot 48.1 percent from three-point range during the month on nearly 3 makes a game. The 6’4 guard’s offensive production and steady presence have made him a star in the Colonels’ lineup as the team moves into the postseason. Stewart on the recognition:

“I would first like to thank everyone for voting me for athlete of the month. I want to give a special shoutout to my teammates and coaches for pushing me every single day to be the best version of myself, not only as an athlete but also as a person. I also want to give a shoutout to my mom, her selflessness and sacrifice is the reason I’m where I’m at today. I am very thankful to be named Athlete of The Month and I will continue to show hard work and dedication on and off the court.”
