Henderson County Schools honor Stallings
Henderson County Schools recognized Henderson County Engineer Nick Stallings as its community partner of the month Tuesday at the Henderson County Fiscal Court’s regular meeting.
HCS Superintendent Bob Lawson said Stallings and the road crews he oversees were able to clear icy county roads efficiently, allowing students to get back to school.
Stallings commended the employees who worked from sun-up to sun-down during the week of the winter storm in early January.
“Their work got the roads clear,” Stallings said.
City awards Community Spotlight to HMP&L linemen and city road and sanitation crews
The city of Henderson handed out its monthly Community Spotlight award to Henderson Municipal Power & Light linemen and city road crews and Public Works employees for their work during the recent winter storm.
According to officials, sanitation crews in nearby cities didn’t work the days after the winter storm while Henderson’s crews missed the following Monday, but were back to work on Tuesday.
Commissioner Rodney Thomas commended road crews, saying the main roads in Henderson were clear the next day after the storm hit.
“When we’re enjoying a cocktail in front of our fireplace, you guys are out there busting your butts clearing the streets,” he said.
Grants for nonprofits that address county health concerns available from Deaconess Henderson Hospital Community Program fund
The Deaconess Henderson Hospital Community Program Fund will award a total of $85,000 to local nonprofit organizations in Henderson County.
Proposals are being accepted until February 28, and winners will be announced in the spring, said a release from the hospital.
The money will go to organizations that address the four areas identified in the Henderson County Community Health Needs Assessment. Those are mental health, substance abuse, obesity/diabetes and health equity/access, said the hospital.
Deaconess said other health related community programs such as those promoting wellness, providing access to health screening and preventing illness will also be considered, and grants should also focus on improving the quality of life for families.
The DHH Community Program Fund is a result of the merger of Methodist Hospital and Deaconess Health System, said the release. At the time of the merger, funds were approved to be used each year to promote the health and well-being of the citizens of Henderson County, said the release.
