Henderson KY Pride Executive Director Cooper Beck initially hoped Henderson’s first Pride celebration last year would draw 40 people.
Once he put the invitation up on Facebook, he quickly learned that he’d need a larger space than the upstairs meeting rooms he’d reserved at the Henderson County Public Library.
The event was moved to a parking lot next to the Chloe Randolph Organization’s offices, and according to organizers, hundreds of people showed up.
This year, the Pride festival needs even more space and will be in Central Park.
The event is scheduled for 2-9 p.m. June 28.
“Last year proved that Henderson is ready for Pride,” said Beck in a Wednesday press release from Henderson KY Pride. “This year, we are building on that momentum by showing up for one another, proud and united.”
This year’s festival highlights include:
- Live performances on the Main Stage from local and regional artists
- Food Truck Row along Main Street
- A beer garden in front of the Fiscal Court Building
- The official Pride After Party at Cap & Cork from 9:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.
According to a release from Henderson KY Pride, this year’s local event falls on the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, “deepening its significance as a moment of reflection, celebration, and community power.”
