Store hours will be 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. The store is located in Gardenside Shopping Center.

According to the release, the first 100 people in line to get in on Saturday will receive a $10 gift card.

The release also said that the store will host a festive first weekend that will be filled with “fun, music, kids’ activities” and more.

Additionally, the company said “the new store will offer customers the opportunity to shop the wide assortment of extreme value products spanning exciting and awesome Five Below worlds – Style, Room, Sports, Tech, Create, Party, Candy and New & Now. Additionally, the new Five Below offers convenience and fun with our Party Shop featuring a large variety of helium balloons, décor and favors. Most products range from $1-5, and customers can shop for even more extreme value items priced beyond $5.”

Payne Bickett named HPD officer of the month

Henderson Police Department Officer Payne Bickett has been recognized as the June Officer of the Month.

On May 18, Bickett responded to a serious car crash on Hwy 359 in Smith Mills to assist the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Bickett arrived and began providing medical aid to the crash victims, including the use of torniquets to stop heavy bleeding, according to an HPD release.

Police say Bickett’s quick actions were the first step in the critical care that was provided to the victims that day. He made a difference in the outcome.  We ask our officers to wear many hats during their day.

HPD investigating Alves Street shooting

Henderson Police are investigating a weekend shooting that left one person injured.

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of South Alves for a report of shots being fired at 2:20 a.m. on June 15, said an HPD release.

While investigating the call, officers located shell casings in the roadway. Further inspection revealed at least one bullet entered an occupied home. No injuries were reported in the home.

A short time later, a victim arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm. The victim said she was arriving at her home on Alves Street when someone in a car fired shots into her vehicle, said the release.

The victim was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, said the release.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact HPD. Additionally, police are asking for residents in the area with cameras to review their system for possible videos of a car in the area around that time.
