Henderson County senior quarterback Brody Belt has been selected as the Hendersonian’s Athlete of the Month after putting together a dominant and efficient September for the Colonels.
Belt accounted for 995 total yards and 16 touchdowns across four games, helping Henderson go 3-1 during the month and climb back to .500 after an 0-2 start.
The senior completed 45-of-72 passes for 694 yards and 12 touchdowns without throwing a single interception in September. He added another 301 yards and four rushing touchdowns.
The September run pushed Belt’s season totals to 1,086 passing yards with 16 touchdowns against just one interception. He has added 279 rushing yards and five scores, giving him 1,365 total yards and 21 total touchdowns through six games.
For Henderson County head coach John Elliott, Belt’s astounding 16-to-1 passing touchdown-to-interception ratio is a reflection of his development and experience.
“I think that just shows his maturity,” Elliott said. “When you get to be a senior, you’re a three-year starter; it’s the little things, like footwork that we’ve been working with him and things like that. He is soaking it all in, being very coachable, working really hard, and showing success on the field.”
Belt credits much of that success to those around him.
“I dedicate a lot of time and effort to everything I do, and I’m proud of the athlete and leader I’ve become,” Belt said. “I’m grateful to my coaches and teammates for pushing me through the rough patches, keeping me accountable, and helping me stay sharp in my game.”With half of his senior season remaining, Belt isn’t looking to slow down.
“At the end of the day, my focus is simple,” Belt said. “Keep working, keep improving, and keep winning.”
