HCHS Golf
September brought much success for the Henderson County golf teams, culminating in the Region 2 Championships near the end of the month. For the girls, senior Meryl Grogan shot a 5-over, 76 to tie for third place, while senior Ainsley Dalton tied for 12th place shooting an 87. On the boys’ side, junior Mason Ranes and freshman Evan Dalton shot matching scores of 76 to tie for 10th place. All four golfers qualified for the first round of the KHSAA state tournament.
Football
The Henderson County football team is 3-3 after winning its last two games. The Colonels beat Daviess County 42-3 before shutting out Central Hardin 42-0 on homecoming. Through six games, Brody Belt has thrown for 1,086 yards with 16 touchdowns and just one interception. Jackson Loveless leads the team with 488 receiving yards, while he and Hezekiah Harris are tied for second in Class 6A with seven receiving touchdowns each. Henderson soon heads into its district schedule looking to build on its recent momentum.

Boys Soccer
The Henderson County boys’ soccer team is 10-3-2 on the season. Two of its most important wins in September came in a pair of 4-0 wins over regional competitors, Madisonville and University Heights, giving the Colonels control of the 2nd Region. HCHS has scored 52 goals. Warren Grove leads the team with 13 goals, with Miles Pryor being second on the team with 10. Pryor is the team leader in assists with 15, while Jack Monroe is next with eight.

Girls Soccer
The HCHS Lady Cols soccer team is 10-3-4. They picked up huge 8-0 wins over Union County and Webster county. They also defeated 2nd Region leader University Heights, 3-1, in the middle of the month. They suffered only one defeat in September. Their offense has produced 51 goals so far. Lalya Gugel and McKinley Black lead the way with 20 and nine goals respectively. Latta Johnston has a team-high 12 assists.

Volleyball
The HCHS volleyball team owns a 12-9 record on the year. Early in the month, the Lady Cols defeated Heritage Christian and Christian County in straight sets, 3-0, giving them victories over the two teams that sit above them in the 2nd Region standings. HCHS also picked up a win over district opponent Webster County, with a 3-0 victory. Christian County avenged itself near the end of the month, handing Henderson a 2-1 loss. Ruby Reynolds leads the team with 243 assists, with Addi Kirtley in second with 222. Evangeline Loffland owns a team-high 176 kills while Emmy Sword is next with 140. Sword also leads the team with 193 digs.

Cross Country
Henderson County’s boys and girls cross country teams both finished second at the Mustang Stampede on Sept. 19. Christian Smith placed eighth to lead the boys, followed by Ross Plummer in 14th and Kegan Cummings in 16th. Sophi Gonzalez led the girls with a seventh-place finish, while Hazel Erbst took ninth and freshman Grace Lawson finished 10th. Smith and Gonzalez also led their respective teams at the Owensboro Invitational earlier in the month. The boys return most of last year’s state-qualifying team, and the girls have taken major strides in Katie Johnson’s second year as head coach.
