Education foundation hosts Firetruck Frenzy on Thursday

The Henderson Kentucky Education Foundation is hosting an event, “Firetruck Frenzy: Keys to Careers ” from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the Henderson County Fairgrounds.  

The keys and title to a donated fire truck will be handed over to Henderson County High School Career and Technical Center for their Fire Science Pathway, according to the education foundation.

The family-focused event will include food trucks, handouts for kids, a chance to explore the truck for kids and the Henderson County Public Library bookmobile. Also, “Bluey” will be available to meet and get pictures with kids. 

NAACP hosts clothing and food drive Nov. 8

The Henderson NAACP Branch #3090 is heading up a community clothing and food drive to support local schools and nonprofit organizations.

The drive will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Henderson County YMCA at 460 Klutey Park Plaza.

According to the NAACP, donations are intended for all ages of children in the county.

Donations will also be given to The Port, St. Vincent de Paul and New Answer Center, said the NAACP.

The NAACP said the best donations for elementary students include unisex bottoms (sizes 5–18 kids), new socks and undergarments, and the best donations for middle and high school students are unisex clothing (Adult XS–XL), gym shorts, leggings, sweatshirts, new socks and undergarments.

“We hope to bring a little smile to families during these uncertain times,” said a release from the NAACP.

County has begun fall paving season

Henderson county government has begun its fall paving season, according to a release from the county.

A list of roads that will be milled and paved is listed below. Portions of the road will be closed while paving is done, said the release.

Spottsville/Baskett/Reed area

Baskett Ridge Road

Green River Road #2

State Street

Hillside Lane

East Pike

West Pike

Hossman Newburgh

Highland Road

Reed-Bluff City Road

Reed-Owensboro Road

Cheatham Road

Niagara/Robards Area:

Middle Delaware Road

Upper Delaware Road

Jones Brothers Road

Sportsman Club Road

Meahl Cates Road

Corydon Area:

Corydon-Green Lick Road

John Tapp Road

Greenlick Baptist

Independence Bank donates to New Hope

Independence Bank, along with the Henderson Chamber of Commerce donated more than $3,000 to New Hope Animal Rescue Center.

The funds come from the chamber of commerce’s 7th annual chili cook-off.

New Hope Executive Director Paula Hawkins says she’s thankful for this donation and that the money will go directly toward veterinary expenses to help with an injured dog that the shelter took in last week, according to a release.
