Milling in city begins next week

The city of Henderson will begin milling streets and alleys next week to prepare for patching, paving and repair projects, according to a release from the city.

Work will take up to three weeks, but the schedule is subject to change as it is influenced by weather conditions and other factors. Temporary closures and delays may occur during construction, said the release.

City officials suggest avoiding these streets where possible.

Residents are asked to have all vehicles moved from the street by 6 a.m. each day until the work is completed. If road closures are required, detours will be set up. And there will be flaggers and/or signs to direct traffic during construction, the release said.

Here is a list of streets on the work list:

  • Country Drive from Russell Drive to 1932 Country Drive
  • North Elm Street from Villa Drive to the entrance of Long John Silvers
  • Peggy Drive from Country Drive to 2034 Peggy Drive
  • South Main Street from Sand Lane to McClain Avenue
  •  Atkinson Park from North Elm Street to the Y located where the park roads meet
  • Fairview Drive from South Main Street to the cul-de-sac on Fairview Drive
  •  Barret Boulevard from the Independence Bank entrance to just behind the first Walmart entrance
  • JFK Community Center upper lot
  • Alley next to 117 Clark Street

Free Mother’s Day breakfast Saturday morning at JFK Center

The city of Henderson is hosting a free Mother’s Day breakfast Saturday.

It will be from 9-11 a.m. at the JFK Community Center at 515 S. Alvasia St., said a city news release.

All members of the public are welcome to attend and celebrate the moms in their life.
