Hendersonian Poynter will work at KSP Post 16
Henderson native J.J. Poynter graduated from the Kentucky State Police Training Academy on Friday and will be assigned to Post 16 here in Henderson.
Poynter will be joined at Post 16 by another training academy graduate, Camden Greer, of Boonville, Ind.
Both Poynter and Green were a part of a graduating class Friday of 40 cadets, which makes up Cadet Class 107 at the KSP Training Academy, said a KSP release.
The cadets reported to the training academy on May 17 and completed 24 weeks of academic instruction and practical training designed to prepare them for the challenges of modern law enforcement.
Cadets in the class underwent more than 1,000 hours of classroom and field study in subjects such as constitutional law, juvenile and traffic law, use of force, weapons training, defensive tactics, first aid, high speed vehicle pursuit, criminal investigation, computer literacy, hostage negotiations, evidence collection, radio procedures, search and seizure, crash investigation, drug identification, traffic control, crowd control, armed robbery response, electronic crimes, sex crimes, hate crimes, domestic violence, bomb threats and hazardous materials, said the release.
“I am proud to welcome Trooper Greer and Poynter to the Henderson Post. Their dedication, hard work and commitment to serving the Commonwealth will be a valuable addition to our team, and I look forward to supporting them as they begin this important chapter.” said Capt. Brian Duvall, the post commander at Post 16.
KYTC hopes Twin Bridges work will be done before Thanksgiving
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said it continues working toward reopening all four lanes of the U.S. 41 Twin Bridges before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Materials needed to complete both repair projects on the southbound bridge are still being fabricated but are expected to be available to begin work the week of Nov. 9, said a KYTC release. Work is expected to start immediately and last up to one week. That would have the bridge reopening prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, said the release.
That schedule remains dependent on confirmation of material deliveries needed to complete the repair, said KYTC.
In the event there are any changes to the current traffic configuration during repairs, the KYTC will notify the public and media as soon as possible.
The current traffic configuration, which diverts one lane of southbound traffic onto the northbound bridge, will remain in place until the necessary repairs are completed, said the release.
