(Each candidate who has officially filed to run for a seat in the 2026 primary has been sent a form to fill out and return to the Hendersonian.)

Name: Dewayne Reneer

Party: Republican

Age: 67

Education: Nursing degree, Certified law enforcement officer, CDC infection control certification, CPR instructor

Experience: Law enforcement investigations, Registered nurse—emergency room nurse, EMS ambulance service, Funeral home, Small business owner, Ivy Tech/Henderson Community College health sciences instructor

Current occupation: Registered nurse, Henderson County Deputy Sheriff, College instructor

Family: Sherri, wife

Why did you decide to run for this office?

With my encounters with those who have passed on, those who are left from the loss, I know that the folks in Henderson needed education in prevention and preparation, and afterwards, those families need more compassion and assurance their loved one will be taken care of.

Why do you believe you are the best choice for this seat?

With all my interactions at crime scenes, deaths, overdoses, suicides—being a nurse with compassion—working on all kinds of crime scenes, I feel these give me a well-rounded view of each call that comes in.

What are your top priorities for the next term, if elected?

  • Building a team of compassionate members with training on the deceased and those left to follow up
  • To educate our community from youth to adults on dangers of lifestyles

A final brief statement to support your candidacy.

From life careers revolving around helping others, from coaching youth sports, law enforcement, nursing, teaching, my experience in all those areas gives me a vast insight to be the coroner.
