For about the last four years, Henderson Community College’s dining options on campus consisted of vending machines.
When the old Student Center was closed in 2020, The Grill where students were able to pick up food between classes—and was housed in the building—went with it. A couple years later, the Student Center was torn down
After that, HCC officials looked for and eventually found a location for a kitchen.
On the first floor of the Academic Technical building, a room next to the campus bookstore has or will have soon many of the necessities that a food service provider needs to operate, according to a request for proposal that HCC recently sent out in hopes of finding a vendor.
Facing the entrance to the building, there is a walk-up window where students and staff can place an order. They can then take their food to the nearby student lounge, or if weather permitting, out to the tables on the patio behind both the A/T and Sullivan Technology Center buildings, said Michelle Dixon, the public information specialist for the school.
But before that can happen, HCC needs a food vendor to fill the space.

The bid process is open until September 4, at 4 p.m. EST., said the release.
“HCC is committed to fostering a vibrant campus life, and the selection of a new food service vendor is a key component of this effort,” said Jason Warren, the president/CEO of HCC. “Our goal is to provide fresh, affordable on-campus food options to our students, faculty and staff.”
They hope to be serving food to students from the space by Oct. 1.
