Vote ‘No’ on Amendment 2

Dear Editor:

Amendment 2 will be on the Kentucky ballot this November. I am voting NO on this amendment! Please understand that I stand with our local Catholic schools and I have seen the cooperation and team efforts with Henderson County Schools to fully educate our kids. But charter schools and other private schools, mostly in north central Kentucky, are pushing for this even though they have been denied twice by our Kentucky courts. I believe this amendment will eventually pull tax dollars away from western Kentucky Schools and we need every dollar. (Sandy Watkins used to say we send our money to Frankfort then fight every day to get it back!)
These providers are not accountable to the same oversight, rules, standards, governance or transparency as public schools. Nor are they bound by law to serve all students.

It is currently unclear as to whether parents will have the choice where their money is spent, or if it will be up to legislators. There are more state representatives in what is called the “Golden Triangle” (Louisville-Lexington-northern Kentucky) than in all of western Kentucky!
I urge you to speak to local educators and understand the ramifications of this to our community. As always, your vote, your choice, your freedom!

Lisa Baird
Henderson

Lisa Baird is a former Henderson County School Board member.
