City advises to boil water for some Main Street residents after water line burst

City of Henderson officials have issued a boil water advisory for numerous blocks in the downtown area.

According to an email from the city, a boil water advisory has been issued for residents who live on Main Street between Sixth and Twelfth streets, on Tenth and Eleventh streets from Main Street to Elm Street and on Eighth Street from Main Street to Craig Street.

Bart Boles, Henderson Water Utility general manager, said the damage occurred when Henderson Fire Department personnel were flushing a fire hydrant at the corner of Seventh and Main streets. He said it appears the line breakage occurred from closing the valve on the fire hydrant too quickly.

“These things, they happen sometimes,” Boles said.

The city advised to boil tap water or use bottled water for activities such as drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes during the boil advisory.

To properly boil your water, run your faucets with cold water for at least three minutes, then fill a pot and bring the water to a rolling boil for five minutes before allowing it to cool. It is recommended to continue boiling or using bottled water until the advisory is lifted.

Thomason’s serves up beans and BBQ sauce at the PGA Championship

This past weekend, golfer Xander Schauffele won the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.

Is there a chance he ate some of local restaurant Thomason Barbecue’s baked beans at some point over the four-day championship to power him to victory?

Possibly.

Thomason’s was one of numerous food vendors at the championships. Proprietor Kevin Gibson said he sent 210 gallons of baked beans and 76 gallons of barbecue sauce to the PGA Championships.

Gibson said the idea of serving Thomason’s food came after a friend contacted him weeks before the championship and told him that those coordinating the food service at the PGA were looking for cuisine with a Kentucky feel.

So, Gibson completed the informational form and sent it in and soon had an interview with the food officials, which basically amounted to a tasting. He said the interview didn’t last much longer than their tasting the beans.

“As soon as they tasted the beans, they said, ‘We want this,’” Gibson said.

Gibson also partook in interviews at the PGA that were conducted by Radius Sports Group.

Deaconess Gateway Hospital achieves comprehensive stroke center certification

Deaconess Gateway Hospital has achieved Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification through the Accreditation Commission for Health Care for its complex stroke care, said a release from the hospital.

Deaconess Gateway is the first and only comprehensive stroke center in the region. This is the highest level of treatment that can be provided, said the release.

Deaconess Midtown Hospital in downtown Evansville continues to provide excellent stroke care working collaboratively with Gateway and is the Primary Stroke Center certified through ACHC, said the release.

Certification is a process through which healthcare organizations demonstrate compliance with national standards. Certification by ACHC reflects an organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting standards that facilitate a higher level of performance and patient care, said the release.
