The Henderson Police Department made a release Thursday morning that it was investigating an incident at Henderson County High School involving a staff member and a student.
HPD was alerted to the matter by Henderson County Schools officials.
Henderson County Schools are being cooperative with the investigation, and this is an ongoing and active investigation, said HPD.
Sgt. Bill Russell, the public information officer with HPD, said it could be a couple weeks before any more information is released.
He said the investigation has just started and there are a lot of students, teachers and parents that will need to be interviewed.
He also said that when dealing with minors, a parent’s permission must be granted before an interview is conducted, which can also add time to the investigation.
To ensure a thorough and fair process, police will not be providing additional details or comments until the investigation is complete, said a release from HPD Thursday morning.
Further information will be released as it becomes available, the release said.
HCS issued a statement Thursday evening and said it was a message that it had sent to parents on Thursday afternoon. Here it is:
“As a follow-up to the message sent yesterday, we’ve heard concerns from our parents and want to assure you that when the report was received the staff member was removed from the high school and reported to Henderson Police Department. As this incident remains under investigation with the Henderson Police Department, no additional information can be shared.”
