Gas main replacement project will be done by fall 2025

Henderson Municipal Gas has started a gas main replacement project with an estimated completion date of late fall 2025.

The project includes the replacement and installation of approximately 5,200 feet of 2-inch gas mains and more than 50 gas service replacements, according to a release from the city of Henderson.

A breakdown of the gas mains’ locations include:

  • 830 feet on Mill Street
  • 830 feet on Shelby Street
  • 250 feet on Letcher Street
  • 1,400 feet on Wright Street
  • 1,230 feet on Atkinson Street
  • 460 feet on Madison Street

The work being completed as part of the project is replacing service lines that are currently more than 80 years old.

“We are making an effort to invest in the infrastructure in the inner city,” said HMG Gas System Director Tim Clayton. “The infrastructure in that area is reaching its usable limit and to ensure we are providing the best service to our residents we are replacing it.”

The first phase of the project began on Monday and includes the installation of new gas mains along the roadways, said the release. Phase two will begin in the spring and will include the replacement of service lines, the release said.

Both phases of the project will cause minimal delays or disruptions for residents in the area. There are no planned interruptions to service as of now. If this changes, the interruptions in service will be scheduled with the customer by Henderson Municipal Gas.

The total cost of the project including in-house labor and materials is $150,000

MLK Day celebration set

The event theme for 2025 focuses on “Equality, Empowerment, and Excellence,” according to information from the human rights commission.

The special guest speaker for the event will be Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry. Music will be provided by the Henderson County High School Choir and Rev. E.J. Simmons, Senior Pastor of Bennett Memorial United Methodist Church. All are welcome.

For questions, contact Rev. Charles E. Johnson at cjohnson@hendersoncounty.ky.gov  or (270) 860-0093).

Dixon named treasurer of the Kentucky Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus

The Kentucky Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus has elected Abby Dixon to a second term as treasurer.

“I’m thrilled to serve as treasurer for KACVB,” said Dixon, who serves as the executive director of the Henderson Tourist Commission. “Tourism plays a vital role in supporting Kentucky’s economy and communities. I look forward to working with my colleagues across the state to continue promoting Kentucky as a premier destination for visitors from near and far.”

Dixon brings eight years of experience to the KACVB executive leadership team and will focus on financial oversight of the organization. Her commitment to fostering collaboration and advancing the industry is well-aligned with KACVB’s mission, according to a KACVB release.

“Abby is a true leader in our field,” said Lori Saunders, President of the Kentucky Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus. “Her vision and dedication will be instrumental in helping KACVB continue to grow and serve as a resource for tourism professionals statewide.”

As treasurer, Dixon will work closely with the KACVB board and membership to advance key initiatives, including professional development for tourism directors, advancing the industry’s advocacy efforts and fostering enhanced collaboration around the state, said the release.
