Henderson County Schools is providing tips and suggestions to families and students ahead of the first day of school on Wednesday.
Megan Mortis, director of public information for HCS, said one of the first tips to consider is to arrive at school a bit earlier than normal to allow for a smooth start.
She also advised other actions to be done the day or night before, including:
- Organize your supplies.
- Pack your bag. Prepare your school bag in advance and include all the essential items you’ll need for the first day. This will help you avoid any last-minute rush and ensure that you have everything you need to start the year off on the right foot.
- Review your schedule. Familiarize yourself with your class schedule and the location of each class. Knowing where to go and when will reduce first-day stress and help you arrive at each class on time.
- Get a good night’s sleep. Ensure you get enough rest the night before school starts. A well-rested mind will help you stay focused and attentive during your classes.
Mortis also provided the following updates.
- All lanes of KY 351 near the US 41 overpass are expected to be open for morning and afternoon traffic by the start of the new school year. This summer KY 351 is reduced to one lane in each direction for work on the overhead bridges. Construction is still ongoing in the area, and lane closures are expected for the next several months. Those closures will be scheduled outside of 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., Monday-Friday.
- 3M Safety & Security Window Films has been installed in all Henderson County School buildings. This film makes glass harder to penetrate and holds shattered pieces in place, helping keep both people and property safe.
- OPENGATE Weapons Detection Systems for Henderson County High School, North Middle School, South Middle School and Central Academy will be ready to use once school officials can receive training. The “free-flowing” screening device allows people to walk through quickly without taking off their backpacks, yet it can still instantly detect metals and weapons.
- Communication is vital for a successful partnership between the school and families. Throughout the year, we will keep you informed about school events, updates, and your child’s progress. Please ensure that you are connected to our school’s communication channels, such as our website, newsletters, and any relevant social media platforms.
Finally, Mortis wants to remind parents, guardians and students that all students receive free lunch and breakfast in all Henderson County schools this year.
