Brody Belt | Baseball | Athlete of the Month for May
Henderson County shortstop Brody Belt has been named The Hendersonian Athlete of the Month for May after helping lead the Colonels to a 6th District championship and being a main contributor to an 18-14 season.
Belt was on a hot streak, hitting .412 during the month, collecting 14 hits, scoring 10 runs and driving in seven runs in 34 at-bats. His biggest performance came in an 11-1 win over Hancock County when he went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs. He also played a key role in Henderson County’s 6-3 victory over Webster County in the 6th District championship game, finishing 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk.
For the season, Belt batted .356 and was named to the All-Region Team alongside Henderson County pitcher Maddox Golday.
“I’m honored to be selected as Athlete of the Month,” Belt said. “This achievement reflects me and my team’s hard work and support of my coaches and family. Baseball is a team sport, and I share this recognition with everyone who has helped me improve and succeed.”
Despite Henderson County’s season ending with a loss to seventh-ranked University Heights in the first round of the 2nd Region Tournament, Belt said the Colonels took a step forward as a program.
“We finished with a winning record for the first time in two years, had two players earn All-Region honors and only graduated three seniors,” Belt said. “We’ll have a lot of experience coming back next season, and we’re ready to get back after it.”
