A planned performance by John Hiatt has been postponed till sometime in October, said Carrie Gentry, the director of the Recovery Resource Club of Henderson. Gentry said she’ll know more in the coming weeks concering the new date and time.

Hiatt had been scheduled to perform 5:30-7 p.m. Saturday at the Recovery Resource Club at 437 First St.

Original story posted Sept. 9:

It’s not too often you get the chance to watch Grammy-nominated musicians for free. That is, if you don’t live in or near Henderson. With four music festivals each spring and summer—three of them free—the musicianship that visits each year is a treat.

Add one more to the list, though this one is a smaller event and one that has flown under the radar of many.

Legendary singer-songwriter John Hiatt will play 5:30-7 p.m. Saturday at the Recovery Resource Club of Henderson at 437 First St. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

And as of Tuesday morning, seats are still available, according to Carrie Gentry, the director of the RRCH.

She recommends contacting her at 270-952-4773 or at carrie.gentry@rrchrecovery.com to reserve a seat.

Gentry said that the club and its partners, such as the Women’s Addiction Recovery Manor and the Men’s Unity Lodge, hope to spread more awareness of what the RRCH offers, which includes myriad resources for those in recovery or who want to go into recovery.

“If they are struggling, they don’t have to struggle alone,” she said.

Gentry also said that she hopes the stigma of recovery can be reduced when people come to the club for the show and see what RRCH is all about.

In addition to his own songs, Hiatt has written songs that Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan, among others, have covered.

Hiatt has performed in the past at the WARM Center and comes this way because of his friendship with locals Mike Early and Dale Sights, who now is the WARM Center’s president and CEO.

Gentry said in addition to singing, Hiatt will share stories of his own recovery.
