Ayden Bennett | Softball | Athlete of the Month for April

Bennett, the senior second baseman for the Lady Colonels, has picked up right where she left off last season as the team’s leading hitter. Through the first 12 games played in April, Bennett owned a team-high .422 batting average, 19 hits, and 14 runs scored. She also stole 13 bases and drove in four runs. Bennett has signed to continue her softball career with the University of Evansville next season. On the year, she is hitting .485 with 11 RBI, 29 runs, 15 walks, and 25 stolen bases, leading the team in each category. She has only been caught stealing once, while also owning a .971 fielding percentage.

Bennett spoke about her outstanding April: “I’m grateful to be selected as the April Athlete of the Month. To have the opportunity to be selected means a lot. This team has to be one of the greatest things that have ever happened to me. These girls have been with me through every up and down in my life and I cannot thank them enough. The experience has gotten me where I am today and I have a great coaching staff to my credit as well. We have not met expectations so far this season. Our team is trusting the process of becoming the best team we can be. I’m truly grateful for my teammates and my coaches who have supported me through my career as a softball player. They have made this sport so much more enjoyable than I ever thought it could be. I truly believe that having a good support system behind you makes everything more enjoyable.”
