The body of a man missing after a boat capsized on the Green River on Wednesday night was found Saturday morning.
The body of Hasani Carter, who was 29 at the time of the Wednesday incident, was found at about 10:15 a.m. approximately 100 yards upstream of the Green River #1 dam, said Henderson County Sheriff Chip Stauffer.
The Saturday morning discovery ends a search that had been ongoing since Wednesday night when a boat that was carrying four people capsized after it took on water.
Henderson County Coroner Shelia Patterson said Carter’s body had been in the water since the night of the incident. She said a dive team was preparing to search Saturday morning when a drone operated by the Henderson Office of Emergency Management spotted Carter’s body up against the bank upstream of the lock and dam on the lock side of the river.
Patterson said preliminarily it appears that Carter died from drowning, but a definitive ruling won’t be made until a state medical examiner can make a report. She said Carter’s body was being prepared to be sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Louisville.
Meanwhile, Stauffer said that the investigation surrounding the death is ongoing. He said there doesn’t appear to be any foul play, but his office will investigate if there’s any criminal aspect related to the death, he said.
The search had continued every day since Wednesday night, with authorities using both drones and boats from various departments around the tri-state assisting.
A Henderson County Sherriff’s Office citation said that the incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, and that four people were on the boat.
The citation said the driver of the boat, Samuel Keene, told a deputy that the boat just suddenly took on water.
Later in the citation, the deputy wrote that Keene, 19, had a blood alcohol level higher than what is allowable for a person under 21 who was driving a boat. He was charged with boating under the influence.
