City trying to find out why calling 911 on Verizon didn’t work Sunday

City of Henderson officials are trying to determine what caused local 911 calls from Verizon customers to not work on Sunday.

City Public Relations Director Holli Blanford said all the city’s systems were running correctly from about 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. when the problem was noticed. She said the problem occurred on the Verizon side.

“This was on Verizon’s side,” she said. “There’s nothing we could have done differently.”

After Verizon notified the city Sunday that the problem had been fixed, Blanford said city officials attempted to follow up with the company to determine what exactly went wrong and how to deal with this problem if it were to occur in the future.

As of Tuesday, Verizon had not got in contact with the city, Blanford said.

“We’re not getting anything back from them,” she said.

She said the solution if this occurs in the future residents can send text messages to 911 and dispatch will receive information this way.

Lane closure on U.S. 41 will continue for weeks

The single lane restriction in place on southbound US 41 from KY 351 to Audubon Parkway, which is needed to construct the noise wall at Vanguard Avenue, will last for several weeks, said a release from I-69 Ohio River Crossing.

The release said drivers should also expect daily lane closures for the next several weeks at multiple locations along northbound and southbound US 41 between KY 425 and US 60. Crews are continuing work on panel signs, lighting, guardrail, asphalt paving and final grading and seeding.

According to I-69 Ohio River Crossing:

  • Lane closures along KY 351 will continue as crews finish panel signs, lighting, stamped concrete and landscaping.
  • Additionally, lanes along US 60 shifted and narrowed with smaller shoulders began Tuesday. Crews continue work on the three roundabouts at US 60 expected to open this summer.

The actual dates may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
