Henderson Resource Fair is set for Friday, Sept. 18
More than 50 vendors will be on hand at Friday’s Henderson Resource Fair, an event organized to help people with a variety of different services and information.
Melissa Collier, the homeless case manager with the Henderson County Homeless Coalition, said she expects as many as 500 people to come and visit the resource fair, which will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and be held at the gymnasium at the Housing Authority of Henderson at 111 S. Adams St.
Collier worked with Rev. Charles Johnson to get the event organized and said it’s taken months for it to come together.
The event will also feature attendance giveaways. Those include $50 vouchers for various utilities, Showplace Cinema movie tickets, Walther’s Mini Golf passes, Edge Ice Center family package, Sky Zone 90-minute passes, Fazoli’s family meals, 7 Brew vouchers and Cracker Barrel.
Also at the resource fair will be local attorneys from the Henderson Bar Association who will meet with people who want to pursue expungements of their records.
Local attorney Austin Vowels, who is helping with the effort, said the consultation at the resource fair will be a first step, and if a person qualifies, he or she will continue with assistance from Kentucky Legal Aid.
Those who have misdemeanors or minor felonies and have completed their sentence or probation are candidates for expungement, Vowels said. He also said people with those charges who also have had five years since the conviction could be eligible.
He expects there will be 5-10 local attorneys present. If a person qualifies, assistance will be available there to help him or her complete an online application to get a certificate from Kentucky State Police, which is a first step to expungement. It costs $40. Evansville Goodwill Industries has donated $500 to help cover that fee, Vowels said.
After this initial help, Kentucky Legal Aid will provide further assistance to finish out the process, he said.
