Inside renovation work at the building city of Henderson officials are calling the Annex is complete.

Officials said at Tuesday’s Henderson City Commission meeting that the Codes Department and Parks and Recreation Department as well as the Occupational License Department will all soon be moved into the building, which is the former office of Henderson Municipal Power & Light at the corner of Fifth and North Water streets.

Employees in codes and parks have already moved in, while occupational license employees were waiting on office furniture to arrive, said Assistant City Manager Buzzy Newman.

“The building is in much better shape than it was before we started,” Newman said.

Mayor Brad Staton said putting codes and occupational license in the same building should help with efficiency for people opening businesses. In the past, codes was located in the Peabody Building on the north end of town while occupational license was in the Municipal Building downtown.

The city commission approved payment of $151,655.51 to ARC Construction Co., Inc. for carpentry services for the renovation at the meeting.

In other news:

  •  The city and Henderson County Government have agreed to partner on a firefighter grain bin rescue prop that will be built at the Henderson Fire Department training grounds on Fifth Street. At Tuesday’s Henderson Fiscal Court meeting, the fiscal court approved an agreement between the local governments in which the city, including HFD officials, will oversee the bidding, procurement and construction while the county will pay for it. Henderson County Judge-Executive Brad Schneider said up to $300,000 is budgeted for the project. Both HFD and county volunteer fire departments will train at the prop.
  • Jordan Webb, the 911 Dispatch director, said that its new CAD system has been online since April 2. It allows dispatchers to see the location of callers on a map, and it also shows the position of responders on a map, she said. Emergency responders, including EMS and firefighters, have given positive comments, she said.
  • The city commission welcomed new hire Mark Goben, a gas system equipment operator at Henderson Municipal Gas.
