Henderson City Commissioner Austin Vowels has decided not to run for another term on the board, he announced in a statement he sent to the Hendersonian and posted to his Facebook account Friday afternoon.
Vowels is currently serving his fourth term on the Henderson Board of Commissioners. He was the top vote getter in the 2022 city commission election with 4,680 votes, easily outpacing the next place finisher by more than 1,000 votes.
Vowels said in the statement that he wants to “dedicate additional time to my growing family, law practice and partnership with Henderson Brewing Co.”
Vowels’s wife, Sarah Crick Vowels, is the program chair of the nursing department at Henderson Community College. The couple have a young son and are expecting another child.
Vowels is one of five local founders of the local brewery and runs his law firm, Vowels Law PLC.

“The election filing has come to an end, and this is the first time since 2016, I have not filed to run for a seat on the City Commission. Please know that this decision did not come lightly. My decision not to file for this next election stemmed from a couple of big items. It is time to give others an opportunity who desire to be involved and serve the City we love the ability to do so. I also want to dedicate additional time to my growing family, law practice, and partnership with Henderson Brewing Co. that running another campaign would make difficult to do.
I am grateful to continue to serve and finish my term as City Commissioner through December 2024. I am committed and excited to continue working with the current Commission to continue the positive trajectory of progress for Henderson and continue to move Henderson forward.
I am pleased to know several of the candidates who have filed to run for a seat on the Commission. I am excited about the possibility of what they can do, if given the opportunity. I also know my co-Commissioners are running for re-election and am very happy to also have them have an opportunity to continue to serve.
Even though I am not running for re-election, I fully intend to stay involved in as many ways as possible to serve the community I love. Thank you to all those who have encouraged me during my time campaigning. It has been an honor, and I am forever grateful for my time spent on the Commission. I continue to be honored to serve the remainder of my current term!
Wishing all the candidates the best! Keep making Henderson the best place to live, work, and visit!”
