The City of Henderson has postponed its scheduled annual milling and paving of numerous city streets.

The work had been scheduled to start Monday. But a brief release from the city Wednesday morning said that it will be rescheduled to sometime in the fall.

The release said that the city has encountered unforeseen circumstances with the contractor being able to get asphalt to the area.

The city said more details will be sent out when they become available.

Below is a list of the streets and areas that are scheduled for the milling and paving in the fall:

  • Argyll Way from Dundee Drive to Bannockburn Drive
  • Hilmont Drive from Wathen Lane to Breezeport Court
  • Larkview Drive from Green River Road to the end of the street
  • Green River Road from Watson Lane to Sinclair Avenue
  • Green River Road from Sinclair Avenue to Whettstone Street
  • Green River Road from Whettstone Street to U.S. 60 East
  • Watson Lane from U.S. 60 East to Green River Road
  • Watson Lane from Green River Road to 620 Watson Lane
  • Municipal Course parking lot

Elevate hosts ‘The Elevate’d Race’

Elevate is holding a city-wide scavenger hunt event. From 4-6:30 p.m. on Sept. 19, four teams will solve clues and compete challenges throughout Henderson in “The Elevate’d Race.”

Team registration opened on Aug. 14, and can be found here. The cost is $100 per team of 4. Participants must register prior to the event.

On the same evening, Elevate is hosting a “Backyard Bash” from 6–9 p.m. This event is free to enter, and it is open to everyone of all ages and abilities.

There will be food trucks, silent disco, corn hole and other activities.

Because this is a fundraising event for Elevate, there will be opportunities to make donations, according to a release from Elevate.

During the Backyard Bash, the winners of the scavenger hunt will be announced.

YMCA is awarded POW! $15,000 grant

The Henderson Family YMCA was the winner of this year’s Partnership of Women grant awards on Thursday, Aug. 13.

The Y gets $15,000 that will go towards an Inclusive Adaptive Wellness and Aquatic Accessibility Project.

According to a post on the YMCA’s Facebook page, the funds will help purchase adaptive fitness equipment that will allow individuals with limited mobility, disabilities, chronic health conditions, or those transitioning from rehabilitation to continue building strength, endurance, cardiovascular health and independence at the YMCA.

The post also said that the money will help the Y replace its aging pool lift.

“For a person with limited mobility, using a pool lift can already feel vulnerable,” said the post. “Having an older lift that may hesitate or stop can leave someone sitting there, wondering how long they will be the center of attention. A new, reliable lift provides something just as important as physical access… it provides confidence and dignity. It allows someone to enter our warm-water pool knowing the equipment will work safely and reliably, without the fear of an embarrassing situation.”

Two other organizations were awarded the runner-up $5,000 grants.

They are:

  • Baskett Community Fire Department-Extrication Tool Project. The Baskett Community Fire Department will use the money to purchase an Amkus Battery Powered Heavy Rescue Combi Tool. The primary duty of this device is for vehicle extrication—removing patients from damaged vehicles or obstructions, according to information from POW!
  • The Women’s Addiction Recovery Manor. The WARM Center will use funding to purchase essential appliances for a new women’s transitional housing facility. This home will serve women who have recently completed inpatient substance use treatment and need a safe, stable and supportive environment as they continue their recovery journey, according to information from POW!
