Imagination Library wants community to support Dolly Parton Day on 9/25
The Henderson County Imagination Library Committee wants families, businesses, schools, churches, nonprofits and community organizations to come together on September 25, 2026 –9/25—to celebrate the legacy of Dolly Parton and the lifelong impact of putting books into the hands of children.
When spoken, “9/25” sounds the same as “Nine to Five,” both a film that Parton starred in and a hit song she sang. Many communities around the country are honoring Parton on this day.
“Dolly Parton has created something truly special through the Imagination Library,” said Danielle Anguish, chair of the Henderson Imagination Library Committee, in a release. “We want 9/25 to be a day when our entire community comes together to celebrate the joy of reading and the difference we can make when we invest in our youngest children.”
The committee is encouraging local organizations, businesses and families to find their own way to participate. Ideas include:
- Dressing up in Dolly-inspired outfits
- Hosting a fundraiser
- Holding a reading event
- Reading with children
- Celebrating with music or other Dolly-inspired activities
- Finding creative ways to promote early literacy and the importance of books
- Sign up for the Imagination Library Program
The committee wants to hear how Henderson is celebrating. Community members are encouraged to take photos and share their 9/25 activities on social media so those celebrations can be shared with the community, said the release.
Organizations that would like to participate can also invite the Henderson Imagination Library Committee to visit their location on September 25 for a special photo opportunity.
The Henderson chapter was the first Imagination Library chapter in Kentucky, beginning locally in 2002. Currently, approximately 1,470 Henderson children are participating in the program.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to enroll eligible children, ages birth to five, to receive free, age-appropriate books delivered directly to their homes. Registration is available through the Imagination Library website.
While the books are provided through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, local community support helps cover the cost of getting those books into the hands of Henderson children.
A donation of $30 helps provide a full year of book shipping for one child in Henderson.
Community members who wish to support the program can designate their donation to the Henderson KY Imagination Library through the Henderson Kentucky Education Foundation.

Community support for Tennille Oliver on Sept. 25
Friends of Tennille Oliver want the community to rally around her on Friday, Sept. 25.
Oliver has been diagnosed with cancer and will enter hospice soon, according to Facebook posts.
According to a Facebook message sent to the Hendersonian, friends want the community to rally together to surround Tennille with the massive wall of support and love she deserves from Henderson.
There are two ways suggested to show support: wear your favorite diamonds or anything that sparkles and wear a pink wig.
The message asks that Hendersonians flood the town and social media feeds with all things bright, pink and beautiful.
“No one fights alone, and we are going to make sure she feels every ounce of our collective strength,” it said.
