Henderson native Debbie Dadey said part of what led her to become an author was the time she spent at the Henderson County Public Library growing up.

That—and having a mother who was a teacher—created a love of books “so much that I wanted to write my own books,” she said.

Dadey was on hand Saturday morning to help cut the ribbon on the county’s 11th Little Free Library, this one across the street from Thomason’s Barbecue beside the parking lot for the banquet hall.

The event was sponsored by the library and Thomason’s and the Henderson Chamber of Commerce was on hand to cut the ribbon. Dadey is the aunt of Thomason’s proprietor Kevin Gibson.

Dadey’s first book, “Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots,” was published in 1990. Since then, she’s authored or co-authored 181 more children’s books that have sold millions upon millions of copies.

She is a 1977 graduate of Henderson County High School.
