A play that is a reworking of Atlanta’s longest-running theatrical production will return to Preston Arts Center this week, July 25-28.
“Kentucky Battle” (by John Gibson based on the original work “Peachtree Battle”) delivers biting humor and satire to skewer politicians, social norms, prejudices and stereotypes.
The story centers around the prominent, though dysfunctional, Bellafonte family. Pillars of local society Trudy and Churchill Bellafonte have three young adult children, and one of them is bringing his Hooter’s waitress fiancé home to meet the family. That sets up all sorts of opportunity for biting insults, unfair assumptions and explorations of racism and homophobia.
The characters are Trudy Bellafonte (Stacey Howell), Churchill Bellafonte (Kenny Bristol), Azalea Bowling Green (Bonnie Bartley), Lexington Bellafonte (Savannah Duckworth), Henderson Bellafonte (Jackson Gaines), Cumberland Falls Bellafonte (Tyler May), Tiffani (Mi’Oshi Holloway) and Marta the housekeeper (Vivian Backes).
Performances are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 26-27, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 28. Tickets are available at showellplayers.ludus.com or by calling 270-831-9803.
