A student at South Middle School has been lodged in a juvenile detention facility after being charged with three counts related to the creation of AI-generated nude photographs of classmates and then distributing them.
The Henderson Police Department said that on Sept. 17 officers received a report of AI-generated nude photographs of students being created by a male student and then being shown to other students.
Officers that day located and identified AI-generated photographs of the victims on a digital device, said the release.
The student was lodged at the McCracken Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
The student is charged with:
- Distribution of sexually explicit images without consent.
- Two counts of possession or viewing of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor over the age of 12 and under the age of 18.
- Distribution of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor over the age of 12 and under the age of 18.
Henderson County Schools released a statement about this incident.
“We are aware of a situation involving a South Middle School student allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) to generate inappropriate images,” said the release.
“Henderson Police Department is actively investigating the situation. School administrators have been in communication with the families involved in this incident and are cooperating fully with law enforcement. Because this is an active law enforcement matter, we will not be releasing any additional information at this time.
