The Henderson County School Board recognized numerous students who have recently won first place in various competitions at the state level.

One of the competitions, SkillsUSA, is a competition for skills learned in career and technical units across the state.

According to Chad Thompson, assistant superintendent, there were 48 competitors from Henderson County High School and 21 of those were first place winners.

J.T. Payne, the principal of Henderson County High School’s Career and Technical Education unit, said HCHS competitors had nearly double the number of first place and top three finishers of any other school in the state.

Dalton Inge, a faculty adviser for the SkillsUSA competition, said many of the students will travel on to the national competition this summer in Atlanta.

Finally, Henderson Mayor Brad Staton presented all the SkillsUSA winners with the city’s Community Spotlight award for the month. The Community Spotlight award recognizes residents who have made a significant contribution to the community.

Staton said that HCHS not only has one of the biggest CTE units in the state, “but we obviously have one of the best.”
