About ready to dig in the dirt?

After all the weather ups and downs we’ve had this spring, it’s about time to take advantage of those spring showers.

A couple of community plant sales coming up at the end of this month can help equip you for jump-starting your gardening.

An event that’s part fundraiser and part learning opportunity will take place on Saturday, April 26, at the FFA greenhouse at Henderson County High School from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The high school is located at 2424 Kentucky 351.

It’s the annual FFA Spring Plant Sale that offers many annuals and perennials of many varieties, including vinca, impatiens, begonias, geraniums, coleus and much more. The students also grow hanging baskets and ferns for summer enjoyment.

In addition to hands-on learning through growing and tending the plants in the greenhouse prior to the sale, the event provides funds for classroom materials, field trips and other events.

On the heels of the FFA sale, the Henderson County Master Gardeners Association will host its annual Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

That sale takes place at the Henderson County Expo Center behind the Henderson County Cooperative Extension Office, 3341 Kentucky 351.

The Master Gardeners offer all types of plants at their sale, including tomatoes and other vegetable garden favorites.
