Henderson author Lawrence Butler speaks at HCPL on Nov. 12

Henderson resident Lawrence Butler will speak about his book, “Untamed: A Testimony of Overcoming the Odds,” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Henderson County Public Library.

Butler will speak about stories from his life and book, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session and book signing.

Butler was raised by his grandparents in rural West Tennessee in a small house without running water. According to a release from HCPL, Butler worked tirelessly to build a successful career and now owns a welding and plumbing company. Despite his humble beginnings, he’s become a pillar of his community, generously sharing his expertise, said the release.

“Untamed” is a refreshing reminder of the enduring power of traditional values, hard work, and faith in God.

Butler lives in Henderson with his wife. They have four grown children.

Section of Wathen Lane closed till day before Thanksgiving

A closure of a section of Wathen Lane originally scheduled to re-open on Nov. 1 has been extended to Nov. 27, said a release from the city of Henderson.

Wathen Lane from Hillmont Drive to the driveway entrance of 6781 Wathen Lane is closed to all traffic, and no local traffic is allowed through the construction site, said the release.

The details of the Wathen Lane roadway construction project, which were announced in February 2024, include the widening of the road, installation of a waterline on the east side of the street, the building of curbs and gutters, as well as the building of an 8-foot-wide multi use path on the golf course side of the road, said the release.

City officials have said that most of the work on the project will be complete by the end of the year. The road will be driveable throughout the winter and the only part of the project that will remain is putting the top layers of asphalt on the road, which should take a couple of days in the spring.

Hinkle Contracting LLC is finishing the job after just recently buying the company of the contractors who had been working on the project.

HCHS theater students to perform scenes from ‘Wicked the Musical’

The Henderson County High School performing arts department will perform scenes from “Wicked the Musical” from 3-10 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Henderson County Public Library.

There will be activities leading up to the performances including “Wicked” Kahoot trivia, friendship bracelets, and face painting/make-up application, courtesy of the HCHS visual arts department, said a release from HCPL.

Trash pickup altered next week

The city of Henderson has altered its trash collecting schedule next week because it will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day.

There will be no trash collection on Monday.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Monday route and the portion of Tuesday routes north of Twelfth Street will be collected.

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, the remainder of Tuesday routes and Wednesday routes will be collected.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, and Friday, Nov. 15, normal trash collection will occur.
