Name: Eddie Vaught

Political party: Republican

Age: 55

Education: High school Graduate Class of 1989; United States Army 1989-1993.

Experience:  I started at the Henderson County Detention Center in 2000. In 2005 I left and returned in 2009. Over the course of my service, I have gained extensive experience across nearly every operational and administrative level within corrections. My background includes roles as Deputy (1st Shift), Property & Classification Officer, Booking Officer, Sergeant (2nd Shift), Lieutenant (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Shifts), and Captain. I have also served in key command and specialized positions, including Assistant Guard Commander, Guard Commander, ISB Chief, Class D Coordinator, Federal Transport Coordinator, CSP Captain, CSC Commander, and Interim Jailer.

My operational expertise is supported by specialized training and instructor-level certifications that enhance staff readiness and facility safety. These include qualifications as S.E.R.T. Team Member, S.E.R.T. Commander, P.R.E.A. Coordinator, Training Coordinator, and instructor certifications in Firearms, TASER, O.C., G.L.O.V.E., Pepper Ball, and Less Lethal Systems. I have experience in grant writing and procurement, as well as service as a Safety & Health Officer, ensuring compliance, preparedness, and responsible resource management.

Current occupation:

I am currently the Training coordinator at the Henderson County Detention Center as well as the health and safety officer, holding the rank of Captain.

Family:

My wife Shelly and I are the proud parents of Tommy, Lacey, Alli, and Logan. With seven (7) grandchildren.

Why did you decide to run for this position?

I am running for Jailer of Henderson County because I believe Our detention center is more than a place of confinement—it’s a place where lives can be redirected. I am committed to ensuring that our facility operates with transparency, fiscal responsibility, and the highest standards of safety for both staff and inmates. With deep roots in this county and a lifelong commitment to public service, I understand the unique challenges we face and the opportunities we have to lead with integrity and innovation.

Why do you believe you are the best choice for this position?

I don’t believe any one person is the “Best” for this position. A Jailer is only as good as their team. I have had the pleasure and honor of serving with many fine Law Enforcement officers while at the Detention center past and present, true leaders and mentors. We currently have a staff of dedicated men and women that can rise and meet any challenge head on. It is these committed professionals working together that make the Henderson County Detention Center a success. We will continue to grow and maintain a facility that both protects and serves the residents of Henderson County.

What are your top priorities for the next term, if elected?

My goals are goals aimed at strengthening jail operations, improving public safety, and promoting greater transparency within the county’s correctional system. As someone who has served in nearly every role within corrections, I understand the challenges our staff face and the expectations our community deserves. My commitment is to deliver a safe, accountable, and professional Detention Center for everyone.

A final brief statement to support your candidacy.

My vision is clear: to run a jail that is secure, efficient, and focused on reducing repeat offenses through education, and treatment. I will bring strong leadership, a steady hand, and a deep respect for the people of Henderson County.

One Team * One Fight
