Winners in the Kentucky National Wildlife Art Exhibit on display through Nov. 14 at Preston Arts Center were announced at an opening reception on Thursday, Oct.1.
The exhibit, presented by Ohio Valley Art League, is the 16th biennial show. Prize money totaled more than $13,000.
The $2,000 top award, The Kentucky Wildlife Award presented by LG&E and KU Foundation, was a scratchboard work titled “Golden Gaze” by Debbie Lentz of Dayton, Ohio.

- $600, The Ralph & Marcia Baker Award, “That’s Amoray,” Leslie Nelson, Evansville, Indiana.
- $500, Rotary Club of Henderson Award, “Birds of a Feather,” Colette Loehrlein, Evansville, Indiana.
- $500, The Edward D. McClellan Sportsman Award, “Prospector,” Jeanne Fuller Scott, Lexington, Kentucky.
- $500, The Merritt Deitz Memorial Award, “Timeless Survivor,” Lindsay Vandiver, Evansville, Indiana.
- $500, The Chuck Stagg Memorial Award, “Hare Today, Gone Tomorrow,” Cathy Sheeter, Aurora, Colorado.
- $500, The John & Dawn Kelsey Wildlife Award, “The Crest is History,” John Giuseppe, Lakeland Florida.
- $500, The Cypress Foundation Award, “Not My Backyard Squirrel — NYC,” Janice Greene, Evansville, Indiana.
- $500, The Stock Yards Banks & Trust Award, “Kentucky Majesty,” Sarah Higdon, Lewisport, Kentucky.
- $500, In Memory of Marvin H. Moran Award, “Distraction,” Sue de Learie Adair, Slingerlands, New York.
- $300, The Nibby Priest & Greg Gibson Award, “Bathed in Gold,” Sean Rademaker, Mount Washington, Kentucky.
- $250, The David & Arlene Alexander Award, “Undersea Elegance,” Rachelle Siegrist, Azle, Texas.
- $250, The Henderson Society of Art Award, “Hang On,” Barbara Smith, Orange, Virginia.
- $250, The William & Margaret Fidler Award, “Solitude at the Shore,” Linda Volz, Mount Vernon, Indiana.
- $200, The Garden Club of Henderson Award, “Rocky Mountain Solitude,” Cynthia Watson, Evansville, Indiana.
Fifty-three works were accepted into the show, which has a wide variety of art media from oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings and mixed media to scratchboard, sculpture and pyrography.
OVAL presents this national exhibit every other year to celebrate our community’s connection to wildlife art and provide a showcase for artist who get inspiration from wildlife and environment.
