Officials will the I-69 Ohio River Crossing announced new traffic restrictions on Ky. 351/Second Street as crews continue to construct both roundabouts on the street and the interchange with I-69.
The two new roundabouts west of US 41 are expected to open to traffic before the start of the new school year in August, said a release from I-69 Ohio River Crossing.
Officials also laid out what drivers can expect in the coming weeks and months:
- One lane will be closed in each direction on KY 351/2nd Street, extending from near Klutey Park Plaza Drive west of North Middle School to Arlington Drive west of Henderson County High School. The lane closures are expected to begin on or after Saturday, May 11 and remain in place throughout the summer.
Traffic will be reduced to 25 miles per hour in the area. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and stay alert in the area.
“We know the significant work underway will impact drivers and their daily commutes,” Emily Deason, project manager with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, said in the release. “We work hard to keep traffic flowing as efficiently as possible. These closures are needed to ensure our crews have the room they need to safely work in the area and keep the project on schedule.”
Congestion and delays are expected. Flaggers may be used periodically, as needed.
- Drivers taking Exit 13 to KY 2084 from US 41 South will notice a traffic change. The ramp will end at a T-intersection with KY 2084 with drivers able to turn left onto KY 2084 South. KY 2084 could reopen to northbound traffic later this month. The roadway is being widened to allow for future two-way traffic.
- In addition to the lane closures on KY 351/2nd Street, the on and off ramps from US 41 South to KY 351/2nd Street are expected to close soon and remain closed for much of the summer. The ramps are expected to close in June and remain closed for about 40 days. A signed detour will be in place. More information about the anticipated start of the closure and details of the detour will be shared closer to date, said the release.
